Is smoking allowed in Moscow?

In accordance with the Federal Law №15 chapter 12 smoking is forbidden inside the buildings and special territories. The list includes but not limited:

  • Trains and city/suburb train stations
  • Subway trains, stations, platforms and near to them
  • Parks
  • Buses
  • Cafes, restaurants, bars
  • Airplanes and airports
  • Ferries
  • Museums
  • Theatres
  • Sport places
  • Educational buildings
  • Children’ playgrounds and near to them

Smoking is allowed where the allowance sign is shown. Some hotels have smoking rooms inside. The most popular places to smoke in Moscow are doorways and sidewalks directly outside office buildings and bars.
